The Bloomfield Presbyterian Church on the Green and Park United Methodist Church in Bloomfield will host a four-evening program for children and adults about rebuilding villages in war-torn areas of Bosnia-Herzegovina. The two congregations are supporting ?Build a Village,? a project of Church World Service, an ecumenical non-profit organization which began working across religious and cultural traditions in this Balkan region after the wars in the 1990s. Each night?s program begins with a light supper at 6:30pm and a spiritual focus, followed by a keynote presentation and dialogue with the presenters, and concluding with a dessert at 8:15pm. Monday evening, Bojana Blagojevic, a native of Bosnia, will speak of growing up in Bosnia prior to the war. After her village was shelled during the conflict, Ms. Blagojevic became a refugee. Tuesday evening?s speaker will be Tatiana Dwyer, Church World Service coordinator for the Balkan region. Ms. Dwyer will describe the work that Church World Service began at the end of the war to restore buildings and support the creation of sustainable businesses. On Wednesday night, Ms. Blagojevic will return to speak about her doctoral dissertation examining the conflicts in the Balkans and the ways these conflicts can be addressed. Thursday evening?s program will draw together these discussions and conclude projects begun each night by children and adults to send to the villagers. An internet photo exchange will occur each day between Bloomfield and the local families working with Church World Service in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Each night, in addition to the adult forum, children will be involved in interactive games and projects to help them understand how people in one country can help families living in another country, including working together to build a village from their own imagination. The event is open to all persons. In order to prepare enough food for all who will join us for supper, the churches ask that you call (973-743-1796) or e-mail (info at bpcog.org) with your name and the number of people who will be attending the event. Message-ID: To the Bloomfield Presbyterian Church on the Green church family: This Sunday, October 18th, Church on the Green is once again sending a team of walkers to the Montclair (Essex County) CROP Hunger Walk. CROP Hunger Walks help children and families worldwide -- and right here in Bloomfield -- to have food for today, while building for a better tomorrow. A portion of the funds raised by the Montclair CROP Walk is returned to the Church on the Green for the purchase of food for our Food Pantry. Last year, Church on the Green walkers collected $2,325 - the second highest total of 19 groups participating in the Montclair Walk. Our goal for this year is $2,500. Please help us reach our goal by sponsoring our walkers. If you are attending worship this Sunday, you can visit the CROP Walk table and write a check or make a pledge. NEW THIS YEAR: DONATE ONLINE! Just visit our team page on the Church World Service website at http://churchworldservice.org/goto/bpcog and select one of the names listed (not all walkers have elected to receive online donations). You can also choose to donate to the team as a whole by selecting the button "Support Bloomfield Presbyterian Church on the Green". If you have any questions or concerns about online credit card donations, please e-mail me at webmaster at bpcog.org. For more information about the Food Pantry at Church on the Green, please visit the Food Pantry page on our church website at http://www.bpcog.org/foodpantry.shtml. Thanks for your support!
