Do any of these childhood characters ring a bell? Join fellow playhouse patrons as 58 area youngsters, between the ages of 7-15, bring these beloved characters to life. Directed by Thibodaux native Erica Annis and supported through the delightful music and whimsical lyrics of Tony Award winners Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, "Seussical, Jr." brings audiences on a journey through the world of Dr. Seuss. In a story that will make you laugh and cry, Horton the Elephant finds himself faced with a double challenge - not only must he protect his tiny friend Jojo (and all the invisible Whos) from a world of naysayers, but he must guard an abandoned egg left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie LaBird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him, the only one who recognizes "his kind and his powerful heart." Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant, in a story suited for the entire family. Evening performances are scheduled for Wednesday, June 27; Thursday, June 28; and Friday, June 29 at 7:00. Matinees are scheduled for Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1 at 2:00. All five performances will be held in the comfort of the Jean Lafitte Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center Theatre located at 314 St. Mary Street in Thibodaux.
