The following might be useful to you as an interesting tutorial of
going from raw capture, to data, to replicating, from a security point
of view:

Right now you're going to be messing around in GRC to get much done;
there just aren't many other tools out there.  That's hopefully some
of what hackrf will fix, making it available to non-rf-experts. 

For just tooling around in the spectrum looking for interesting signal
patterns, I'm a big fan of GQRX.  Many are not, but I haven't found
something better in Linux yet.
