Thanks for the assistance...
I have the 8-1-2014 firmware. hackrf_spiflash is not an executable. It's a .c file what do I do with that? A simple .exe would make this easy.

How about create an executable that I can use that will apply the hackrf_one_usb_rom_to_ram.bin to the hackRF One? That is simple and just about anyone can follow a few steps. Having to compile code, install several things and then learn what they are before I can apply a firmware upgrade to a hardware device is really pushing the limits. I just want to use the HackRF!
