Having done a quick bit of googleing. It looks like the kernel's SDR API added support for HackRF in 3.18. I'm willing to bet that this is what's breaking it.
If you get a chance to boot with the 3.18 kernel, could you look at the output from lsmod? Assuming that the SDR API is built as a module, we should be able to blacklist it and have everything else work.
