I checked around and found a Best Western on Union near 7th for about half the cost of the Renaissance. I did the Google-maps street-view thing, going back and forth a couple of times from the conference to the BW, and it seems an easy distance to walk in the morning. Seemingly safe area as well.
There is a Double-Tree a little further down Union St., near 4th, I think. A little farther to walk in the morning, and a little pricier than the BW, but still cheaper than the Renaissance, and a shorter walk back from a night's carousing on Broadway than where I'm staying.
Hope that helps,
Looking forward to seeing one and all.

Howdy IPACers,
Through the generosity of a colleague in Arizona and the kindness of my
director, I am making plans to attend the conference next week. Yehaw!
Now, does anyone on the list know of a place to stay other than the
Renaissance? I am on my own dime for this conference and $181 for three
nights is a bit steep for a hardworking public servant. I was hoping
for the gov't rate at the Renaissance, but they are sold out for that
rate. I would like a place that is not too far from the Convention
Center and not too pricey. I was thinking maybe priceline? I am open
to all creative ideas!
Would love to hear your thoughts...
