[Kreweoftruth] Levees.Org Calls Rally to Defend FIred LSU Hurricane Expert

In response to public outrage over Louisiana State University's
decision to fire hurricane expert Ivor van Heerden, Levees.org is
announcing a rally at LSU's Health Sciences Center in downtown New
Orleans.

The Rally will take place at 10am Thursday April 16 in front of the
Ische Library at 433 Bolivar Street one half block off Tulane Avenue.

Dr. van Heerden led a team of independent geotechnical engineers who
investigated the levee failures in metro New Orleans after Katrina.
His team found that the disaster was due in large part to design and
construction mistakes by the US Army Corps of  Engineers and he was
openly critical of the Corps.  This criticism has resulted in threats
by LSU and those in the previous Administration. "Our phones are ringing 
off the hook and our email boxes are filled with messages from people who are 
angry," says Sandy Rosenthal,
founder of Levees.org, a grassroots group formed after the levee
failures during Hurricane Katrina.  "They want to do something to
protest LSU's action."

"LSU's decision actually puts Louisianans at risk," says Vince
Pasquantonio, legislative liaison for Levees.org.  "From now on, we
will have no independent voice on hurricane protection issues.
Experts will be afraid to speak out for fear that they will end up
like Professor van Heerden."
