United States Census – Required by the Constitution every Ten Years
NOLA - Are we “ripe for over count”?
Some conservative pundits think so – what do you think?
Anyone who has worked a campaign in the past few years knows how far off
our information on where people live is from the reality. I had the pleasure
to volunteer for a Presidential campaign in 2008 (for the winner!!) and know
that when calling people from the very best lists available there were
barely half that were correct. People in flooded parishes had moved, were gone,
disconnected or otherwise ain’t home!!
So is there really any chance for an overcount or is that just
conservative hype? It’s hard to believe that there is some sort of conspiracy as this
constitutional requirement has been undertaken every ten years since 1790,
but maybe the conservatives are on to something.
It’s been reported in some parts of the US that conservatives are
resistant to filling out the census; afraid of the reach of “big government”.
Knowing how important each one of us is in New Orleans; this can’t be the case
here, can it? Certainly there is no reason for conservatives to root for an
under count in New Orleans. Is there? You tell me.
Seems like the powers that do be, don’t be or wanna be should be beating
the drums to encourage all of us to fill out the US Census. So – what’s
the scoop? Tell it like it is NOLA.
