For Academic and Athletic Achievements
WHAT:
District "B" Councilmember Stacy Head and Council President and Youth and Recreation Chair Jackie Clarkson will recognize Xavier Prep Students for academic and athletic achievements at a Special Meeting of the Council's Youth and Recreation Committee Meeting.
District "B" Councilmember Head said, "I am pleased to have this opportunity and appropriate forum of the Council's Youth and Recreation Committee to recognize the outstanding Xavier Prep and its students. It is vitally important to acknowledge the achievements of our young people and to encourage and support their even greater future successes. These young women have worked tirelessly to earn athletic titles on the field and academic awards in the classroom. I commend their efforts."

The Special Youth and Recreation Committee will host the award ceremony. Council proclamations will be issued to 68 outstanding students in grades 8 through 12 who have achieved excellence in academics and athletics.

NOLA City Council
The New Orleans City Council is the legislative branch of New Orleans city government. The Council considers and enacts all local laws that govern the City of New Orleans. The Council also approves the operating and capital budgets for the City, as recommended by the mayor, and continually monitors revenues and expenditures for local government operations. The City Council is also the regulatory body for public utilities. It also reviews and has final say on many land use and zoning matters, as well as considers major economic development projects for the City. As a Board of Review for Orleans Parish, the Council examines appeals of property tax assessments for real estate taxes, and certifies tax rolls to the Louisiana Tax Commission. Other responsibilities of the Council include overseeing the operation of the public access television in Orleans Parish.
The City Council is comprised of five districts and two councilmembers-at-large. Council President and Councilmember-at-Large Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson; Interim Council Vice President and Councilmember-at-Large Eric Granderson; District "A" Councilmember Susan G. Guidry; District "B" Councilmember Stacy Head; District "C" Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer; District "D" Councilmember Cynthia Hedge-Morrell; and District "E" Councilmember Jon D. Johnson.
