New Orleans, LA- Today, Council President Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson announced that this Thursday, May 3rd, at its regular meeting the City Council will vote on the appointment recommendation of Councilmember-At-Large-Elect Stacy Head to appoint Errol T. George as the interim District "B" Councilmember. George will fill the District "B" seat that will be vacated by Councilmember Head on Wednesday, May 2nd, when she assumes the oath of office for the Councilmember At-Large seat that she was elected to last Saturday, April 21st.

Mr. George will serve as the interim District "B" Councilmember until a permanent District Councilmember is elected. As the interim District "B" appointment, George is not permitted under the City Charter to participate in the election to permanently fill the District "B" seat on the Council. The election for the permanent District "B" Councilmember seat is scheduled November 6th. If necessary, a run-off election will be held on December 1st.

Mr. George is an urban and regional planner and business management consultant with experience in community development, program management, and government relations. He has worked for the U.S. Senate and the Louisiana Legislature. Currently, he is self-employed with the firm of George & George, LLC. He is a New Orleans native and graduate of Brother Martin High School and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Urban Studies from the University of New Orleans, where he also received a Master's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning.

NOLA City Council
The New Orleans City Council is the legislative branch of New Orleans City government. The Council considers and enacts all local laws that govern the City of New Orleans. The Council also approves the operating and capital budgets for the City, as recommended by the mayor, and continually monitors revenues and expenditures for local government operations. The City Council is also the regulatory body for public utilities. It also reviews and has final say on many land use and zoning matters, as well as considers major economic development projects for the City. As a Board of Review for Orleans Parish, the Council examines appeals of property tax assessments for real estate taxes, and certifies tax rolls to the Louisiana Tax Commission. Other responsibilities of the Council include overseeing the operation of the public access television in Orleans Parish.

The City Council is comprised of five districts and two councilmembers-at-large. Council President and Councilmember-at-Large Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson; Interim Council Vice President and Councilmember-at-Large Eric Granderson; District "A" Councilmember Susan G. Guidry; District "B" Councilmember Stacy Head; District "C" Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer; District "D" Councilmember Cynthia Hedge-Morrell; and District "E" Councilmember Jon D. Johnson.
