New Rule on Support Animals for Veterans Cancels Happy HolidaysVeterans will no longer be allowed on Airlines with Emotional Support Animals
The U.S. Service Animals Covington, Louisiana Office is alerting Louisiana Veterans that a Trump Administration rule, established in the waning days of the President's term, will no longer allow emotional support animals on airlines. "This is a blow to the 20 percent of Veterans returning from Afghanistan and Iraq who suffer from mental and emotional disabilities that are clinically diagnosed," said Spokesperson Brian Trascher, U.S. Support Animals. "This new rule issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation will violate the civil rights of these service men and women. We oppose this new rule." “The statistics are clear that a large number of combat veterans will face some sort of emotional distress when they return home. Therefore, it is critical that people with disabilities, especially our veterans, be allowed to travel freely with emotional support animals,” said Don Lee, Veteran and Co-Founder of Combat Flip Flops, a veteran run organization. “This new rule threatens the stability of many and we commend USSA for standing up against it. We stand ready to assist them however we can in service and support of our brave veterans.” Mr. Trascher said the Louisiana USSA will be fighting the rule.
