[Kreweoftruth] Just who is the woman's right activist in Senate 5 race?

Over the past weekend, as I went to many public events populated by political junkies like myself, I kept hearing the same complaint about the Senate 5 race in Orleans Parish which pits two seated State Reps against each other: Why does the male in the race and his supporters keep claiming he is the strongest woman's right activist?
As someone who for years advocated on behalf of Planned Parenthood to keep abortion legal in Louisiana, as well as to gain contraceptive equity for women in the state with their insurers, I have to speak up here: Anyone who thinks that in the Louisiana Senate a woman from New Orleans is not the best choice to speak up for women's rights and the rights of their families is not living in the real world.
While there were always men in the state legislature who claimed they supported women's health, employment and family issues, you know what really changed the dialogue and brought forth legislation and change? When we finally started electing pro-choice women from New Orleans to the house and senate. Senators Diana Bajoie and Paulette Irons in the senate, succeeded by Cheryl Gray and Karen Carter Peterson, became the sole vehicles by which legislation got voted on...even if it didn't pass...at least we knew the job we had to do to gain votes and from who.
There will always be pressing issues about equity, fairness and justice in a state with a history as long as Louisiana's, but as you can see below, the only way to get our issues truly heard is to be at the table...as women. Remember that when you vote on November 8.
