LIONESS was broadcast on Independent Lens/PBS and we created a video op-ed about women in the military that was posted on the New York Times website on Veterans Day. The film screened in film festivals at home and abroad, including the Margaret Mead Film and Video Festival in NYC, Asheville Film Festival, and Festival Internacional de Cine, Paz y Derechos Humanos in Valencia, Spain. We also began making plans to tour with the film in 2009. We are finalizing details for a screening and reception on Capitol Hill which will be co-sponsored by Cong. Susan Davis (D-CA) and Cong. Judy Biggert (R-IL), and supported by Disabled American Veterans. We are thrilled to be part of a Congressional effort to address the needs of active duty women and women veterans, especially those who have served recently in Iraq and Afghanistan. If you know of an organization or network whose members would be interested in learning about LIONESS, please let us know. We are currently building our outreach network and are actively interested in reaching out to new communities. LIONESS DVDs and posters are now available on our website: http://www.lionessthefilm.com . There are various options, depending on how you plan to use the film. We are offering substantial discounts if you purchase multiple copies of our home use DVDs. They make great holiday gifts for family and friends! If you want to organize a community screening, community use dvds are now available. Note that we are offering a special discount for clinicians and counselors who assist women veterans and who want to use the film in their practice or at their local VA clinic. Email us at info at lionessthefilm.com for more information. Educational/public use DVDs, which come with public performance rights, are also available for purchase on our website as are DVDs for public library or high school use. I saw it in Seattle and it is excellent. I am a nurse Viet Nam veteran. It is so important to educate Congress and the public about women serving in the military and women veterans. I am writing a book called Women Under Fire: Their Stories, Their Words. I have been interviewing women veterans for the past two plus years. I have stories of women from WWII all the way to Iraq/Afghanistan. I have interviewed about 49 women and will use most of the stories. I would very much like to interview one or more, of the women who served with the Lioness Unit, if they are up to giving me their story. I do the interviews on the phone and they last from 90-120 minutes. I ask them some questions to get them going, and keep them going through the interview. I am a nurse psychotherapist, so I am gentle and can help them through any emotions that come up. As you probably know, remembering is difficult for many of them. I really know that....and it is important for their stories to be told, including the effects of their service. Please pass this on to them and ask if any of them would be willing to do an interview with me in the near future -days, weeks. They can contact me directly if they are willing and we can set up a date and time to do it. Respectfully, Sarah L. Thanks for the information. I am a close friend of Kate (Pendry) Guttormson and I would really like to see the film. I live in London, but was unable to make the screening in Brixton last fall (although I bought tickets!). I think this is the type of documentary the BBC would really be keen to air. Have you approached the BBC? Thanks for making this film! LIONESS DVDs and posters are now available on our website: http://www.lionessthefilm.com. Thank you so much for your ongoing support. Wishing you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.
