One problem however is that while I can locate an email message easily in the search pane, there doesn't seem to be a way to find out what folder it's in. According to the Entourage search FAQ, found here: http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq_topic/search.html "How to find folder for message: Spotlight search results finds the message. With the message open, click and hold the Move button in the Entourage window. The folder that appears at top of the list is the folder the message resides in." However there doesn't appear to be any "Move" button in the Entourage window. Does anyone know how to determine what folder a message in the search results pane actually lives in? I've been using it since 2003 (I know because I discovered tasks going back that far!), and I'm only now really learning the features. As others have pointed out on various websites, the new mechanism for 'Custom View" is now called Saved Search. I just wonder if anyone here has an opinion on one vs the other. There seems to be no way to create new custom views, however I can edit my old ones. I'm wondering if there is any value in keeping them around, or if I should just delete them and recreate them as saved searches. Since there is no longer a way to create them, it would seem reasonable to infer that at some point in the future they will be migrated over to saved searches. Hi Steve! Saved Search = Custom View. They are the same with one exception and that is you have one more way of creating a Saved Search than you had before. To create a Saved Search in Entourage 2008 you can: 1. Right-click the "Views" folder at the bottom of the folder list on the left and select New Saved Search. 2. Select File --> New --> Saved Search. 3. [New] Use the Search field in the upper right corner of the Entourage main window, the Quick Filter field or simply type Command-F (Find) to search based on your criteria and then click the Save button when you're done. There are several choices like Date created, date modified etc. You can then select all and delete them, or be more specific and delete just the problem events. FYI...items are stored for syncing in a database called the Truth. If this database contains corrupted data then it will just re-sync populating the bad data over and over. The developers wisely or unwisely thought end users would grok the changes but lot of folks are looking for old buttons and/or features. Philosophy aside... It's so easy to export your contacts as a tab delimited file there is no excuse. In Entourage 2008 you can use the new Automator actions to schedule this with iCal. It might even be one of the Entourage 2004 actions. I don't have a list of those to compare. Look for Export Entourage Contacts. Save as iCal plugin and edit for backup times. I also strongly urge you to backup all of your data in Entourage on a regular basis. Keep snapshots like Time Machine so you can roll back. When you finish testing select "Switch Identity" and select your Main Identity See it's easy to switch Identities. Very useful for testing your current Identity. The green tick at present is on my account. Hi Gareth! The green tick simply indicates that the Calendar is your default calendar. Your default calendar is decided solely by what you've selected as your default account. Although you've got your Exchange account set as default, the default calendar will always be "Calendar" and can not be changed even if you have more than one Exchange Calendar within the account. Also, public folder calendars can not be set as your default Calendar. But, what you have set as your default doesn't really matter. Some options may exist to get you close to what you want, but first, can you elaborate on what you're needing or expecting? If you'd like to be able to sync your public folder calendar to your iPhone and have the option to update the public folder calendar from your iPhone then I don't think that's possible. If you simply need a constant one-way sync from the public folder calendar to the iPhone then that's still probably not directly possible but might be easier to accomplish with some scripting. If you can live with having to manually sync one-way from your public folder calendar to your iPhone then you can do this: 1. Create a second calendar within your Exchange account and call it something like "Public folder calendar". When you have two calendars within the same Exchange account then the iPhone's view changes to allow you to see multiple calendars. You'll see a "< Calendars" button at the top of its list. Click that and you'll see your Exchange "Calendar" and "Public Folder calendar". 2. Add your public folder calendar to your Subscribed Public Folders. This will sync its contents to Entourage and you'll now see this as a third calendar under your Exchange account. 3. Create a custom calendar view for just your public folder calendar items. Once they're synced you can literally select all of them and then drag and drop to your "Public Folder calendar" calendar. The contents will sync to your iPhone. By the way, this setup will work for a public folder address book too. I'm not sure this will be the solution you're needing but it's the best I have found so far. Hope this helps! -- bill William M. Because public folders are not part of your Exchange account then, yes, you'll have to manually sync. And categories have never synced between Entourage and Exchange. The only other option I can suggest is to see how a shared calendar or a delegated calendar works instead of a public folder calendar. Again, because that calendar is not part of your own Exchange account I don't have high hopes, but it may be worth testing. -- bill William M. There have been so many updates that fixes bugs you should update. If you archive (zip) your Office folder, you should be able to update without any serious consequences. Do you have a backup volume you could run the installers on to give you a comfort cushion? -- Diane From lists at cortig.net Tue Aug 19 21:52:27 2008 From: lists at cortig.net (=?ISO-8859-1?Q?Corentin_Cras-M=E9neur?=) Date: Tue, 19 Aug 2008 20:52:27 -0500 Subject: [ANN] Hot topics for installing 12.1.2 updater In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <6AA49986-A4FC-4487-8C92-7F0AA9B67DFA@cortig.net> On 19 ao?t 2008, at 20:41, Janell wrote: > I haven?t updated and am using 12.0.0 mainly because it is working. :) You're lucky it works for you. 12.0.0 had a good share of serious issues that were corrected in the later updaters. Despite the difficulties updating, it was well worth the effort for me. I've written an AppleScript to add week numbers to the first Sunday of every week of the chosen year so that we can see week numbers in the monthly calendar view too, where I find them more useful. Before asking on a mailing list, newsgroup or calling support, check the Error Page or the Solve Crashes & Conflicts Page. Searching for answers if often the quickest way to find an answer, plus when you search for answers yourself you often find other bits of useful info along the way. Don't expect someone else to always provide the answers. For example: You receive the error "The action could not be completed. An unknown error (4362) occurred." How do you find what this error means and what are you supposed to do? Because this error lists a number, visit the Number errors page. Click on the link at the top for Positive Errors, select 4362. The solution is to rebuild your database. This is one of the common errors received in Entourage. Knowing where to search resulted in receiving an answer in less than a minute. The messages sometimes look like a mix of HTML, E-mail headers and what's left of the original message or they look like an unintelligible jumble of letters and numbers. The recipient and the subject are also empty. This problem was addressed in the knowledgebase article "The header information is not displayed in Entourage 2004 for an e-mail message that is sent by using Exchange ActiveSync" . However, the workaround mentioned in the article, which is to view the message in Outlook Web Access (OWA), does not work in either the full version that Internet Explorer for Windows users would see or the light version that Mac users would see. What's happening and how can you read these "corrupt" messages? Continue reading at . -- bill Entourage Help Page Entourage Help Blog YouTalk Twitter: follow
