You can also use this method to hide: Hold Option-Command when you click on Dock icon for the next application you want open. This hides all applications except the one you select. -- Diane From nmielke at microsoft.com Fri Dec 5 15:33:57 2008 From: nmielke at microsoft.com (Nadyne Mielke) Date: Fri, 5 Dec 2008 12:33:57 -0800 Subject: Open in task view In-Reply-To: <120520080313.19754.49389C48000A3F9700004D2A2205886172010298079B9C@comcast.net> Message-ID: If you're using Office 2008, you could see if My Day meets your needs. The default view gives you three calendar events and three tasks, but you can resize both sections (including completely hiding, so you can just not show the calendar section), and you can make the whole window as big as you want it. You can also add new tasks in My Day. It doesn't give you the full power of the Task view in Entourage (for example, you can't set categories or give start/due dates for tasks), but it's a nice quick view of your task list. I tend to use My Day for an at-a-glance view of what I need to work on and to check off tasks, and then use the Task view in Entourage for creating tasks (because I almost always want to set categories, projects, due dates, and reminders on my tasks). Entourage doesn't need to be open for My Day to work. Regards, Nadyne. What I want is very simple. I would like my mailbox to be arranged with older message threads at the top and newer ones at the bottom. Within each message thread, I would like to have the original message at the top, followed by replies, oldest to newest. What I do not want is to waste space with the Group title line for each conversation thread. I find the ?Show in Groups? option to be hideously ugly and wasteful of space. I cannot seem to get Entourage to behave this way. In order to get the sort order I want, I have to show the Group line. If I get it sorted correctly and then turn off ?Show in Groups? I lose the sort order. I can?t seem to create a custom sort that will work this way. Am I missing something simple, or is Entourage not able to do this? Just to be clear, here is what I would like my inbox to look like: Thread 1 12/1 re:thread 1 12/2 re: thread 1 12/3 Thread 2 12/2 re:thread 2 12/3 New thread 12/5 unread 12/6 It is essentially this setting, except that I want to suppress the Group title bar: > Group by Subject, sorted by received, oldest on top > Sort within group by received, oldest on top Any help greatly appreciated. -Bob From rbpl at sbcglobal.net Mon Dec 15 12:12:10 2008 From: rbpl at sbcglobal.net (Gerald Duchovnay) Date: Mon, 15 Dec 2008 11:12:10 -0600 Subject: Not Receiving all Emails from senders I know Message-ID: I am on an iMac Running OS 10.4.11 Running Entourage 11.4.0 Have been sending and receiving emails, but at least two correspondents, whose emails I have received in the past, have sent emails (often simply using "reply" to my email) but I have not received them. Some possible options. * Your ISP has blacklisted their ISP. * You have a rule that is moving them into another folder. Try turning off All rules by unchecking them (this includes your Mailing List Manager rules) and test receiving. (this one is the most likely culprit!) Your virus software is doing something to these emails. You could use a test word that doesn't exist so an advanced search of Entourage will easily find the email. I like qquark for testing. In Entourage 2008 the Spotlight search would easily find it. -- Diane From bob.virzi at verizon.com Tue Dec 16 09:20:07 2008 From: bob.virzi at verizon.com (Bob Virzi) Date: Tue, 16 Dec 2008 09:20:07 -0500 Subject: Mailbox sort order In-Reply-To: Message-ID: On 12/15/08 8:21 PM, "Diane Ross" wrote: > Bob wrote: > >> I cannot seem to get Entourage to behave this way. A plain text mail message is about 4k in size. Very very tiny. Moving them out of Entourage to your Desktop probably won't save you any space. And to recoup that space you would have to drag your messages out and then use the Database Utility to compact your Database, which can take a while depending on the size of your Database. If you're concerned about space then consider removing attachments, especially from messages you've sent yourself. You already have them somewhere already. Or consider just getting a larger hard drive. Space is cheap these days. Hope this helps! -- bill William M. The database will be left with 'wasted' space in it every time you delete something. However, this is not all bad, since the wasted space is used up with new data as it is added. This way, over a period of time (assuming that you are deleting stuff as you go) the database will probably reach an optimum size, after which the stuff you delete is roughly equal to the stuff you add, and no further growth takes place. -- Diane From kmarker at gmail.com Mon Dec 22 10:12:10 2008 From: kmarker at gmail.com (Kevin Marker) Date: Mon, 22 Dec 2008 09:12:10 -0600 Subject: Links in Entourage Message-ID: <23ea8c160812220712u23939583g7519cf77152b725e@mail.gmail.com> Mac 10.5.5 Entourage 12.1.4 POP Is there a way to send a link to a local file from Outlook 2007 that an Entourage user will be able to follow. ASAIK, this is not available in Entourage. One of the Exchange experts will probably have a workaround. In the meantime, try PathSnagger. Change the preferences in Entourage so that attachments are set to be encoded "... For any computer (AppleDouble); no compression; Windows file name extension" instead of "Windows Mime/Base 64". Hi Peter! Probably not. Those features have the option to not display the messages again so that can just run automatically without your intervention. Did you look in Deleted Items folder? Folders require an extra step to delete. It's probably still there. BTW, you should have received a warning when deleting a folder. If you didn't it's because you turned off Notifications in Entourage preferences. What kind of mail account do you have (POP, IMAP, Exchange)? If you trashed the folder from under "On My Computer" and you have empty your Deleted Items folder then I know of no mechanism to recover it other than to restore from backup. Do you have backups? If you have trashed a folder from an IMAP account then the folder may still be on the server so long as you haven't let Entourage connect and update the server. You'll probably have to log in through webmail to duplicate the folder prior to letting Entourage connect. If you have an Exchange account then you can recover deleted items for a short while using Outlook Web Access (OWA). Hope this helps! -- bill William M.
