In that same dialog box there is a tab labeled "Organization" that shows the recipient's manager, as well as their direct reports. In Entourage I can't find the same functionality (for either 1 or 2). Is there any way to achieve the same thing? Perhaps with a 3rd party product? In Outlook when I did this I would see phone numbers, etc. Re point 2 below, - That's unchanged, the "organization" tab doesn't show up. I do have access to the GAL, for instance I can look up employees by last name from our company directory without any problems using the Entourage Address Book, selecting the Exchange account, and typing into the "Name starts with" field. Any idea what might be the problem here? It's fully recursive - you can follow the chain by double clicking each contact. Again this works fine in Entourage if you're browsing the GAL, but not when addressing a message. -- Adam Bailey | Chicago, Illinois adamb at lull.org | Finger/Web for PGP & S/MIME adamkb at aol.com | http://www.lull.org/adam/ From graydressage at optonline.net Wed Sep 3 18:38:44 2008 From: graydressage at optonline.net (Lendon Gray) Date: Wed, 03 Sep 2008 18:38:44 -0400 Subject: In-Reply-To: Message-ID: What do I have to do to be able to open a .wmv file? Unless the database corruption is severe, Entourage will open without rebuilding. The more corrupt it gets the harder it is to successfully rebuild. Your best option, as long as you can open Entourage is to manually move your data into a new Identity. > > Today it wouldn't open. However, not all backups are good copies. I always advise making a copy first in the Finder. I have seen a backup go completely bad during the rebuild leaving you with nothing. It's rare, but it does happen. > > I had had to reset it up but what I really want is all my email addresses > and contacts and emails back. Under File in the Menu bar select Export. You can export as Entourage archive (.rge) selecting contacts or everything and as a tab delimited file. Do both. Tab delimited files are extremely small and can be opened in any text editor or Excel. The Entourage archive (.rge) can only be read by Entourage but are extremely small also and easy for importing into a new Identity. > > I looked on other sites and they said my database must be in the wrong spot, > but I think it is in the right spot, although I have a number of data bases > (because of so much rebuilding). The problem is in overwriting files. An example of the use case is where someone will send me a file, and I save it to disk. Later, an amended version of the file is sent, and I try to save it over the old filename. This use to work, but now reports an error and suggests rebuilding the database and trying again. I have, but it still produces an error. I have, but it still produces an error. Let's be sure the file is not being saved in the Entourage "save attachments" folder. This might be causing the rebuild error. I have seen cases where the user received the rebuild error and this was fixed by simply moving the Microsoft User Data folder to the desktop. Let Entourage create a new one, then move the individual folders back to the new Microsoft User Data folder. > > Mind you, after the problem I encountered with saving attachments of any kind > in the past, now mostly fixed, I'm not going to complain too loudly, but it > still is a bit annoying. > > Has anyone else experienced this problem? Yes, exactly - always the same address. Reason is that my superiors don't trust that much in eternal reliability/accessibility/compatibility of electronic e-mail backups ;-) So every e-mail received has to be forwarded to a specific address to be later printed out for traditional paperful storage... uuuhh! How about this instead, which would be easier to implement: Instead of prompting you to forward you could simply assign a category called something like "Forward?". That way you don't have a dialog that could get in the way and you can use a Custom View to show you all messages with that category? In that same rule you can add a criterion "Display dialog", which will alert you that you've received messages you need to check. Altogether it would look like: Rule name: Forward this? If Any CC: Recipient Does not Contain someone at company.invalid Then Set category "Forward?" Display dialog "Check your Forward Custom View for messages that may need forwarding." It is used by MS to diagnose issues and eventually correct them in future versions, but it is in no way for them a mean of communication with customers. Use the Help --> Check for Updates command to update your version of Office. Updating may correct the problem you're seeing too. What I suspect is happening is that these messages are malformed or corrupt and giving Entourage problems. Most often these are spam messages or very complex HTML messages from sites sending you newsletters. You will probably never be able to read these in Entourage. Turn off the Preview pane using View --> Preview Pane. This will prevent them from displaying when you select them. You can them either delete them or drag them to your Desktop and try opening them in Apple Mail or another E-mail program. Either way, get them out of Entourage. Hope this helps! -- bill William M. It was a collection of fun applications that did nothing productive except make your Mac more enjoyable. (I think that's productive, don't you?) On that floppy disk was a program called the Talking Moose. For me, that book and that program defined my appreciation for the Mac. They taught me that a computer can interject some fun into the middle of work, adding a new dimension to "the computer" that I didn't know existed. The Moose is over 20 years old today and is still alive on Mac OS X. A few years ago when I rediscovered the Moose I also wrote a couple of AppleScripts that allowed me to use it with Entourage. To start the dialog rolling, what is most important to you about the whole task delegation process that Outlook performs? Is it the ability to send a task and have someone accept it, putting it on his task list? Is it the ability to mark tasks as partially completed or update the status? Is it the ability to report those updates to the sender of the task? Is it the ability to do all this interactively with Outlook *and* Entourage clients or just between Entourage clients? Something else? Not everything is possible but with reasonable expectations folks may be able to develop ideas. -- bill William M.
