Subject: Can send but not receive

Suddenly, I have not been able to receive mail - but can send- from entourage.  Entourage shows that I am connected to the exchange server and can ping it successfully. I can receive mail on my iPhone connected to the same server. Any ideas?

Did you install the Safari 4 beta? This has caused all sorts of problems for
Entourage users. See this article on how to uninstall.

The Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.7 update is now available for
download via Microsoft Auto Updater (MAU) or directly from Mactopia. The
12.1.7 updater is a combo updater. It requires that 12.1.0 be installed.

Some users are reporting similar problems as past updaters:

"You cannot install Office 2008 12.1.7 Update on this volume. A version of
the software required to install this update was not found on this volume."

No problems using the combo updater from MS.  I would like to know
what has changed.  Flowed text maybe after many formal requests?

All Office 2008 applications seem to work but I have no idea what
was fixed or updated.

The Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.7 update contains changes that improve security
and performance.

The .01 increments are bug fixes and security updates. They'll never be
feature releases.

I have one user using Entourage (12.1.5) on Mac OS (10.5.6) connecting to Exchange (Kerio 6.2.1). When other users attempt to schedule this person either via Entourage or Outlook this persons free/busy time is shown as always busy. All day long even at night. 

Is there some vacation or out of office setting that is set? Something else that I have missed? Thanks.

What does the user's calendar actually look like? Does he schedule a lot of
all-day events without setting them to "Free"?

Hi all, not sure if this got through with my moving email addresses, so resending.

I just got moved to a new Exchange server.  I am unable to get  Entourage to successfully work with it, although I can set up a Windows Outlook client.  I believe I am having a root credential problem, as described here:

My admin is less than supportive of Mac access, although we do have web access available through SSL.  Does anyone know how to find the root cert on a windows set up?  I am thinking if I can find it I can then use keychain access to install it on my mac.

Failing that, any other work arounds?  I am not at all sure why this server would be configured so that the normal access routes are failing, and yet web access is available.

You need to import the root certificate. If your webmail is on the  
same server you entered in Entourage, it should be doable.
- Connect to Webmail through SSL in Safari
- if you get a dialog about the certificate, expand it (of you don't,  
click on the little padlock indicating a secure connection to bring it  
up)
- go down the dialog and you'll find links to certificates.

You can use these links to download the root certificate. Once  
downloaded, double-click it to import it in your Login keychain (in  
Leopard - X509Anchors in Tiger).

I am not able to download the cert.  I go the site, and login.  When I click on the Lock, a dialog box does pop up, showing a verisign cert.  But if I click on this, or any other part of the dialog, nothing happens.  I don't see how to "download" it.  Tried right-click etc, all produce no result.  Same result at me.com - I get the dialog up, but no way to download that I can find.

Am I missing something about how to download it?             -Bob

You need to import the root certificate. If your webmail is on the  
same server you entered in Entourage, it should be doable.
- Connect to Webmail through SSL in Safari

Certificates for Verisign sites (and Me.com) should be natively  
supported on your Mac.
Is the name of your server the same as the server you connect to for  
webmail??
a regular connection to me.com doesn't get authenticated. You can  
manually add the s to http to get https, but that's irrelevant since  
you connect to a different server for e-mails (imap.me.com instead of www.me.com 
).


What you are  looking for in the details for the certificate, is a  
field mentioning "Certificate Authority Information Access" or simply  
"CA issuer" (certification authority) with a link to a .cer file.

launched, can most of you now say that Entourage in Office 2008 is stable??
Are there any compelling reasons to upgrade from Office 2004, which works

User running Entourage 12.1.7/ Mac OS 10.5.6.

Account is Exchange

Macbook Pro 2.4 GHZ Intel Core Duo, 4 gb RAM

Here's the problem. Users incoming email is arbitrarily marked as "Read".

 It arrives to the inbox as "Unread" but without any user interaction,
the messages change status to "Read" after a random interval. This can
be as little as a few minutes to as long as several hours.

The only other device accessing her exchange account is an iPhone and
we've tried physically shutting it off for a period of time to test if
that's what was causing the status change without any difference.

Mail provider is running Exchange 2007 and claims eveything is nominal
at their end.

Anyone seen this before?

Most of the problems with Office 2008 have been with the actual install
process. If you use VBA, stick with what you have. If you use Entourage a
lot, then you will enjoy the new features in Entourage. Personally, I feel
that Entourage is the most improved of the 08 Office applications.

The new Spotlight search in Entourage is so fast and easy just that alone is
worth the upgrade is you do a lot of searching.

If you can explain how you use Office then we could better make
recommendations.

If you don't need Exchange you can get Office 2008 very reasonably. $113.49

Right now I can't even remember this being reported. Generally it's a rule
that changes the status of a message, but that happens directly and not at
random intervals. This would indicate a schedule that's firing a script to

Mailing List Manager rules can also mark as read, but again this would not
happen at random times. All this leads me back to something acting on
messages on the server that's syncing up to Entourage is marking them as
read.

Identity, doesn't Office 2008 convert the 2004 data into an Office 2009
form?

If so, and one decides to then revert to Office 2004, can one use the User
Identity that is now an Office 2009 User Identity?  Or is all that data lost
to Office 2004?

Since Entourage does not synchronize with external devices, I've been trying
to use the 'Sync with iCal' feature (then using iSync to sync with the
iPhone) and it has been incredibly troublesome.

At first things were OK, but at one point all my events got duplicated.
Argh. I would delete the extras here and there but it was annoying. Then
they got duplicated again. And again. Very annoying.

So I decided to turn off the syncing between Entourage and iCal and start
fresh. I deleted all the extra events in Entourage. Then turned on the
syncing again. The Entourage calendar was created in iCal but it had zero
events in it. I followed all the advice I could read about flushing the
SyncServices database and tried again and again. No dice. Currently the
Entourage calendar in iCal flickers in and out of existence while I have
iCal running. There are zero events visible in that calendar and when I sync
to my iPhone it shows zero events.

I want my Entourage calendar events on my iPhone 3G and I can't seem to make
this happen. PocketMac promises to do this for $25 at
http://www.pocketmac.net/product.php?id=21  I will gladly pay this price
unless someone either tells me A) Here's the free solution to your
problem... or B) PocketMac's product won't work for you because...

BTW, I'm using Entourage 2008 12.1.7 on Mac OS X 10.5.6
I waited until February to upgrade from Entourage 2004 and this is one
reason I'm really regretting it.

Sync Services have been a huge sore spot for users. See this article for

After you sync, turn off all but one item in Entourage Sync Services. (You
might only want to sync contacts occasionally, so leave events set to sync)

I have a simple question, which I hope you can answer.

I work as a firefighter, and we have a rotating 3 day schedule.  For
example, in a monthly calendar, if the ?A? shift works on the first, then
the ?B? shift works on the second, and the ?C? shift works on the third.

Therefore, our work calendar is colorcoded:  The number 1 on that month is
colored green, the 2 is colored blue, and the 3 is colored red.  The pattern
continues ad infinitum; the 4 is green, 5 is blue, 6 is red, and so forth.

Is it possible to color-code the numbers of the Entourage calendar in such a
fashion?

If you select all day then the bars overlap, I would just put in 12 hours.

Create a new calendar event. Under Occurs, select custom. This will create a
recurring task. Select Daily, every 1 day then select "After task is
complete create a new task in 3 days." Assign it a category to the task that
is colored red. Create a task for each group.

I sent you a screenshot off list that shows how it looks.

There are two search boxes. The top right uses Spotlight.

?  Check to see if there are any files at this directory:

~/Library/Caches/Metadata/Microsoft/Entourage/.

?  Is the Entourage Database Daemon (Office Notifications) turned on?
Spotlight will index any cache files the Entourage daemon has created even
if the daemon is not launched, but no new cache files will be created until
the daemon is launched again. If the Microsoft Sync daemon never launches,
there's no way for Entourage to sync data with Sync Services. The
preferences in Entourage for Sync Services basically control 1) if this
daemon app is launched and 2) where it should sync data to-from.

?  Is the Sync Services preference disabled in Entourage? If you look at
Activity Monitor, is there an app called "Microsoft Sync" running (or runs
when you modify something in the Entourage calendar in iCal)?

?  Office 2008: Install two files: Microsoft Office.mdimporter in the root
Library/Spotlight folder and the Microsoft Entourage.mdimporter in the
package: "Microsoft Entourage.app/Contents/Library/Spotlight" bundle

?   Do you have Mail Messages. Contacts, Events & To Do Items selected in
Spotlight System Preferences? These options do not apply to just Apple's
applications.

The second search box has popups like Name contains. [enter text in box]

I am running Entourage 2004, Mac OS 10.4.11 and iCal 2.0.5 on a MacBook Pro.

Entourage wiped out ALL my contacts and calendars.

Last night Entourage suddenly quit, and MS put up a message that its
database was corrupt.  It offered one measure:  "Rebuild".  I had had no
problems with Entourage even one hour before.

I did the rebuild.

Upon restarting Entourage after the rebuild, the Prefs for:

Sync Services -> Synchronize Contacts with Address Book
Sync Services -> Synchronize events and tasks with iCal

...were both turned off.  I turned them back on, as they were before the
rebuild.

Guess what.  
All my events in iCal disappeared, poof, before my eyes.
All my contacts in Address Book disappeared, poof, before my eyes.

Screwy Microsoft crummy application implementation.  Shame on them!  It did
not even give me the usual Apple SyncServices notification "More than 5% of
your data will be changed.  Do you want to proceed?"

I would have said "NO!"

Fortunately I had the same data on my iMac, so I was able to export the
contacts and calendars from the iMac, and then import them to the MacBook
Pro.  Now Entourage had a few duplicate entries in the Address Book.  From
where?  They were all wiped out.  And my several Groups were still there.

I use SyncTogether to synchronize my Address Book contacts and iCal
calendars, between the MacBook Pro and the iMac.  But now I'm afraid to do

They don't sync. That's a big issue as far as I am concerned.
If they were in the system AB, you need to perform your restore from  
there. If they were in Entoruage, restore the data from Entourage on  
the other Mac.

I have had serious issues of the sort in the past, but not lately  
(with everything up to date).

My less-than-mac-friendly company moved me to a new exchange server.  Entourage produces a root server error, or tells me that it can't establish a secure connection because "the server name or IP Address does not match the name or IP address on the server's certificate."  I am not having any luck getting the root cert from the exchange server to install on my mac.  <sigh.>

What are the magic words I can say to the IT folks so that I can access the server using my old method - server address the same as that used for secure web access?  I used to put something like

https://webmail.mycompany.com/exchange

into the server address and it worked.  Whatever that service is that needs to be turned on is turned off when I use

https://webmail.myNEWcompany.com/owa

Although that address works just fine from any browser, it doesn't work with Entourage.  Any tips or suggestions on what I can say to the IT folks to explain to them what to do would be greatly appreciated, as I am living in virtual Outlook hell right now.  Thanks.

Subject: ATT/Yahoo Nagging about Entourage Password

The smtp.att.yahoo.com  SMTP mail server has been
nagging me all day to verify my password.  It will
not let me send mail until I verify the pwd, the asks
me to do again the next time I have to send mail

Is there something I need to do within Entourage
2008 v12.1.7 to satisfy the smtp server?

This is big time annoying and my account setup is
correct and has not changed.

Usually, it's the Apple Keychain that's at issue.

Open Keychain Access application in Applications/Utilities folder. Run
Keychain First Aid. It's in the Keychain menu under Keychain Access. This
might fix the problem, if not, delete the entry for that account in the
Keychain.  

Go to Entourage, select 'Accounts' from the Tools menu, choose the account
that was giving you trouble and delete that account (not just the info the
account). 

You should now be able to create a new account and enter the correct
information. Type carefully. If you paste don't include spaces.

This is a very common problem.

The Apple Keychain may have been the problem.  As you suggested
I ran the Keychain First Aid and got all kinds of red notes saying

  Item ?pop.smtp.att.yahoo.com? has unspecified value for port attribute
  Item ?pop.smtp.att.yahoo.com? has unspecified value for port attribute

I ran the Repair twice and it finally cleared up the mess.

Let see if works!

I've seen similar. IMHO the keychain is in need of updating. It doesn't show
duplicates and for some sites that update passwords quarterly, the old
password stays in the keychain until I find and delete it.

Cleaning it out was good suggestion.  It is working fine now and I hope
the password nagging has stopped.

Well first, they obviously have a certificate problem they need to  
fix. They need a new proper server certificate where the IP matches  
what's in the certificate.
Then if the server you are connecting to is giving you trouble, you  
can try connecting to the front end server (OWA) if you were  
connecting to a back-end server and vice versa,

As others have explained this is a mailing lists where everyone subscribed
can post questions and receive answers from other list members.

If you just want quick answers, look for answers in a forum or subscribe to
a newsgroup. 

If you are interesting in learning about a product, then a mailing list is
more like a community where you can follow the questions and learn from
others as well as contribute when you have something to offer. Over time,
you get to know other members and you'll find you'll enjoy the atmosphere of
the community over the impersonal atmosphere on newsgroups and forums.

If you are not familiar with a newsreader, Entourage's basic newsreader
already has the Microsoft News server included. All you do is subscribe to
the newsgroups you want. See this article for help subscribing using the
Entourage newsreader:

Running the Keychain First Aid did not work.  It started again
this morning nagging me the about the password.

Footnote: Should the Keychain Access be locked or unlocked
after doing a repair?

It must have been an Entourage issue as I had to do what you suggested to
create a new account and delete the old one with the same information.

I have been able to send a few test messages. I hope this one works
