Hello, you are invited to join the ChicagoDSA discussion list. This is a broadcast invitation that we do two or more times a year to all those members eligible but not on it. You do need to be a Chicago DSA member though your dues need not be up-to-date: "This is a discussion list for members of the Democratic Socialists of America Chicago Local only. The prime topics for discussion are DSA strategy, tactics, program, ideas, and practices. A wide variety of opinions and proposals are expected and encouraged, but the moderator will not permit rude or abusive behavior or personal attacks by one list member on another." As they say regarding bourgeois investments: past performance is no guarantee of future performance. But the traffic on ChicagoDSA has been relatively light. There might be several messages in a day. There may be a week with none. The list uses Mailman as its distribution software, so you can configure your account (even change addresses or unsubscribe) in a variety of ways. There also has not been much of any discussion. The list has been used to post information about events (both DSA and not) of interest. The list has been used to solicit help in the office or at a demonstration. The list has been used to post articles, typically stuff specifically about DSA or our politics but sometimes other stuff (e.g., union news, job openings, free tickets). We also post the minutes of the previous Executive Committee or Chicago Local membership meeting just prior to the next meeting. And I've been sending out monthly reports on traffic on our web sites. In a way, this is good as email lists are not great for multiple discussions. The “bandwidth” tends to fill very quickly and there is what I call a “cocktail party effect” where a lively discussion inspires further postings. Don't mean to discourage you but it is what it is. There is also a recently established closed Facebook Group for discussions that you may want to consider at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1737264853254567/. Closed means you need to apply to join. ChicagoDSA is separate from our announcement list (CDSA). The Northside DSA and the Southside DSA have their own email list. At present, nearly 90 Chicago DSA members are on this list.
