[IPAC-List] Reading & Writing Tests for Police Selection?

A question was posted on a listserve of clinical psychologists working in law enforcement, asking for names of reading and writing tests for screening police candidates. Can anyone suggest any reputable off-the-shelf tests?

Relatedly, I expressed some ADA-related concerns to the listserve about administering such tests during the post-offer clinical evaluation. Suffice it to say that the clinicians were not terribly receptive to my admonition, as the impetus for the test request was that candidates, especially ESL candidates, are too limited in the reading, writing and English expression skills to provide reliable responses to test items and interview questions. Any thoughts or experiences on this thorny issue?

Thanks in advance for your help,
