Phoenix Fire has assisted/sponsored "mentorship programs" to help with
diversity recruiting/outreach and also do some community work (e.g.,
Rosie’s Ladder, the Valley Hispanic Bomberos, and the J.W. Robinson
Society of United Black Firefighters). I'm not sure of the specifics but
I know they have used staff (like Fire Captains) to help coordinate
meetings and events. The groups are open to anyone who is interested in
becoming a FF or wanting to help the community (i.e., you don't have to be
a female to join Rosie's Ladder etc). The members do study groups, visits
to fire stations, exercise groups, and community events like charity
fundraisers, water safety awareness events, etc.
