[IPAC-List] Changes to/Future of IPAC-List

The IPAC-List will best serve the interests of IPAC if it is left open
to all participants, rather than making it a members-only list. An open
List provides greater expertise and serves as a recruitment tool for new
IPAC members. The simplicity and speed of the IPAC-List is also plus,
compared to IPAC-Linkedin.

Because IPAC has yearly conferences we have an opportunity to know the source, to have a better understanding of the education level, experience level, and level of responsibility of the individuals who post (which is generally top-notch). While some IPAC members post on Linked-In, most active IPAC members are not on Linked-In everyday and the quality and the expediency of the responses are generally not as helpful as the IPAC list-serve. In some cases the quality may be fine on Linked-In, but because I don't know the source I may question the quality and the purpose of the response. On the IPAC list-serve there is a moderator that keeps the "I'm selling a product that I want you to buy" to a minimum. On Linked-In, that could be all you get in terms of a response. If you are searching for a vendor Linked-In could be a good avenue. If you are just looking for a quality answer, you may get a perspective !

The IPAC listserve provides for me an opportunity to freely interact with you, the consultants, in areas that are very important to the fire service. I have found no other source group to which I could turn with my questions, in which I could quickly receive feedback and opinion. I hold a great respect for this group, and I hope to see it continue.

I'm not sure whether I'll be able to change that or not. I'm now using the archiving system built into the listserv software itself, which works fine -- just no built-in search.
