John –
Try searching for Training and Experience or T&E validation studies. There was a run of these at SIOP in the 1998-2002 time frame. I believe a few made it to publication in JAP and PPM. The traditional T&E “exam” used at the local and state government level was similar to the Federal KSA narrative in that they required the candidate to provide a narrative statement relating their training and experience to the requirements of the job.

Subject: [IPAC-List] KSA Validity Studies?

Hi Folks!
All of us are familiar with KSA narratives, even though they are less commonly the first hurdle in U.S. Federal hiring. They are still with us.
Can anybody point me to a validity study of KSA narratives? Or anything close to it?
Help in this area would be much appreciated!
John
