[IPAC-List] Leadership Testing

I hope folks reply to the list, as I'm interested in the same questions.

We recently did competency modeling for the job family of "managers," defined for us to include formal supervision of others (as opposed to program managers without direct reports). Using the Lominger library of competencies, through grouping them a little differently, we identified a set of nine competencies relevant for every manager position (attached). We also have a set of core competencies as our foundation for every role.

These inform our selection processes, which vary quite a bit from position to position. We've not gotten very rigorous with linking specific tools to specific competencies. Assessment center simulations are almost always involved.

More than anything, the competency modeling has given us a common language to talk about success factors in those positions.

Thanks,

Subject: [IPAC-List] Leadership Testing

Hello All,

The City and County of Denver is conducting job analysis to develop selection measures for City leadership - our current priority is first line supervisors. We are interested in knowing the following from our selection partners:

Do you have an organization wide leadership model which provides a baseline for how you select supervisors?

Is your selection process competency based and if so, what competencies are rising to the top?

What types of selection tools are you utilizing, i.e., education and experience, knowledge based multiple choice, aptitude/cultural fit assessments, situational judgment questions?

And any other words of wisdom would also be much appreciated. Thanks!
